In questo esordio i GTV illustrano in toto la loro formula artistica: rock d'arte dal piglio moderno, dalla scelta di sonorità lontane dal vintage ad oltranza, in una linea di continuità che lega il quartetto grossetano a nomi come Floating State, Synderesi, Garamond e VIII Strada. Ipotizzando un punto d'incontro tra Banco, Echolyn, Rush e neoprog scandinavo alla Simon Says, i GTV confezionano un prog spigliato, pungente, con frequenti spinte hard senza entrare in territori metal. "Sorgente sonora" (gustosissimo l'inserimento di fisarmonica in un passaggio degno dei Fates Warning...), "Misera Venere" e il gran finale di "L'indice e l'occhio" sono un riuscito manifesto programmatico per una band che ha davvero qualcosa da dire, anche se - come buona parte di colleghi vecchi e nuovi - l'articolazione dei testi e la loro interpretazione sono il punto debole, così come una certa prolissità che talvolta penalizza (vedi "La paura"). Nell'elaborare un rock d'impatto e di spirito epico (vedi "Quantocàmia"), i GTV riescono a variare le atmosfere e a pensare in termini di ampio respiro strumentale, anche in un formato di breve durata ("L'estremo viaggiatore").
Uno dei migliori debutti degli ultimi anni da parte di un gruppo intrigante, che ha bisogno solo di piccoli ritocchi. (Movimentiprog)

Questo il succo dei Nichelodeon , progetto del 2007 che unisce sperimentazione, teatro e musica: ovvero musica “d'autore obliqua e visionaria” aperta alla contaminazione di generi musicali e delle arti. Dopo il bellissimo “ Cinemanemico ” (che abbiamo recensito), esperimento live del 2008, il gruppo esce con il primo studio album: “ Il gioco del silenzio ”, anticipato da “ Apnea ”, il singolo. “Il gioco del silenzio” riprende 4 tracce del precedente “Cinemanemico” e le ripropone in studio, più 8 brani nuovi di zecca, ai quali si aggiunge il Dvd “ Come sta Annie? Twin Peaks 20 th Anniversary Show ” che contiene 7 brani live tratti da “Il gioco del silenzio” più 6 pezzi di “Passaggio nella loggia nera” tratto da “Twin Peaks live soundtrack”. Il Dvd è stato registrato durante una performance al Bloom di Mezzago. “Il gioco del silenzio” si apre con “ Fame ” (contenuto in “Cinemanemico” insieme alla splendida “Malamore e la Luna”, “Amanti in guerra” e “Ciò che rimane”) per proseguire con l'inedito “ Fiaba ”, una meraviglia di circa 7 minuti (loro sono sempre prolissi!) dove si eleva una tragica preghiera dalla splendida voce di Claudio Milano: “Liberami dall'odio che è in me”. “ Claustrofilia ” (l'esatto contrario della claustrofobia) è inquietante, quasi quanto il titolo. Un senso di angoscia si eleva, risvegliando attacchi di panico sopiti per anni. “ Apnea ” ( guarda il video ) è un groviglio di emozioni che rappresenta l'anima dei Nichelodeon. Chi si aspetta un brano “radiofonico”, perda ogni speranza. Gli otto minuti di “ Lana di vetro ” lasciano posto alla conclusiva “Ciò che rimane”. “ Il gioco del silenzio ” ha un bel booklet, dove di ogni traccia è riportato il testo in italiano e la relativa traduzione in inglese. “Silenzio” inteso non come assenza di musica, ma come reale espressione di pensieri ed emozioni. Ispirato all'arte surrealista di Alejandre Jodorowsky nasce ORCHESTRA PANICA,
nuovo progetto ideato da Luca Vicenzi (chitarre, anche Zita Ensemble)
e Francesco Agostoni (tastiere, programmazione), tra ambientazioni allucinogene,
ampie spazialità visionarie, passando per il minimalismo di Steve Reich e il
jazz elettrico più planante di Miles Davis. Coadiuvato e arricchito da una piccola
orchestra di tromba (Michele Falotico), vibrafono-glockenspiel-timpani-marimba
(Giuseppe Gagliardi), contrabbasso (Marco Ferrara), basso elettrico (Moreno Meroni),
batteria (Luca Urbani), il respiro di "Journey to devotion" è soprattutto suggestione, psichedelia atemporale, intepretazione sonora del "movimento panico",

Il primo album dei Raven Sad , progetto portato avanti da Samuele Santanna , aveva colpito favorevolmente per quelle sue atmosfere rilassate e dal sound spacey , che avevano fatto scattare subito naturali paragoni con i Pink Floyd e i Porcupine Tree . E' un piacere ritrovare Samuele un anno dopo con un nuovo cd che parte dalle stesse coordinate del primo, accentuandone (ma non esasperandone) la vena cosmica, per dare continuità ad un processo artistico che appare convincente in tutto e per tutto. Il suono delle onde, il canto dei gabbiani, voci fuori campo, note lunghe di chitarra, tastiere d'atmosfera… E' così che Infinite Lactean Seashore ci introduce a questo lavoro, con un indelebile marchio floydiano per la musica sospesa e rilassata di scuola Shine on you crazy diamond . A seguire, More life forms ci porta, con l'entrata di una batteria che scandisce tempi lenti e del cantato soffice, in quelle dimensioni oniriche presenti, oltre che negli album dei Pink Floyd, anche nella nuova psichedelia dei primi dei Porcupine Tree e in certa produzione di David Sylvian . E con questo abbiamo già descritto le coordinate su cui si muove questo We are not alone : per un'ora e passa abbiamo queste atmosfere avvolgenti, questa dolce malinconia, questo lento fluttuare di note che accarezza docilmente lasciando gradevoli sensazioni. Anche quando si punta su qualcosa di diverso, con una leggerissima accelerazione, un pizzico di elettronica, condita da sax e belle melodie, come accade in Meteor , brano che rievoca contemporaneamente il miglior Alan Parsons Project e gli Enigma , o anche con qualche vagito di post-rock sparso qua e là, il discorso musicale resta pienamente godibile. Forse, ad essere pignoli, manca un po' di “dinamica”, intesa come variazioni improvvise che ogni tanto fanno sobbalzare, ma non se ne sente la mancanza più di tanto, perché si avverte che siamo di fronte ad un album fatto innanzitutto con il cuore, proponendo ciò che piace e ciò che si è capaci di fare molto bene. Ascoltare conferme di questo tipo è sempre un piacere! (rottersclub)

Dopo un album d'esordio autoprodotto nel 2005, il rinnovato trio pubblica questo "The Addiction": un lavoro che punta a mostrare integralmente obiettivi, pulsioni, dinamiche e aspettative del progetto. Che immediatamente trasporta l'ascoltatore in un panorama lontano, oscuro, teutonico: "Devon PTU" riallaccia un legame con l'elettronica tedesca dei tempi di "Zeit" e "Phaedra", "Odessa" e "Addiction" con certo minimalismo alla Cluster.
Differente il mood di "Senica star", acustico e floydiano, l'incanto cosmico di "N.V.", "I" che riporta alla luce frammenti di Labradford e certo post-rock, la perla di "Baratio", un maliardo flusso di coscienza sonoro. Anche se l'apporto di Tuppo - e di altri tre collaboratori - è evidente, si fatica a trovare in "The addiction" un plus in termini di originalità, e il disco a volte risulta fiacco e privo di una personalità forte. Tuttavia, se il suo intento è quello di suggerire, evocare e lumeggiare, allora l'obiettivo è raggiunto. (Movimenti Prog)

Con il terzo lavoro Zita sale e diventa gassoso, aereo, ampio, probabilmente più libero e completo. Tuttavia vola più in alto che mai, osa, e chiude in modo eccellente la propria esperienza musicale. "Volume 2" è un manuale di lunghi brani e furibonde jam che colgono l'aspetto più mistico, spirituale e meditativo, con una capacità camaleontica di mutare durante lo stesso brano. Numerosissime le influenze, ma stemperate nello stesso progetto, dall'acid rock di Agitation Free e Ash Ra Tempel (da manuale "Suite n. 3") agli Area, passando per King Crimson, Miles Davis, Terry Riley e i Grateful Dead, sconfinando tra Canterbury e certo post rock più nebuloso (vedi "Chi illuminerà questo grande buio?"). In questo caso gli ingredienti di "Quintet Session" sono i sintetizzatori, il trip hop più contaminato, le tablas, il basso alla Soft Machine , i lunghi ragas mediorientali, l'africa kraut degli Embryo , il terzomondismo. Un concept album denso, raffinato, che ci regala una band finalmente al pieno livello di maturità dopo il buono, ma ancora troppo acerbo, debutto. Una quindicina di pezzi straordinariamente ispirati in cui si affaccia il lasciato di uno dei mitici gruppi del periodo psichedelico italiano, quegli Aktuala dai sapori etnici, dalle espressioni pluriculturali, che avevano fatto della comune di Via Ripamonti (a Milano) un (anti) centro nevralgico dell' intellighenzia freak dei primi anni '70. Luca Vicenzi, chitarrista e leader della band muove la sua sei corde in maniera autorevole alternando riff dal sapore mediorientale con morbide sonorità jazzate e passaggi più cosmici dove abbondano l'uso d'effetti e delay. Il batterista spazia anch'egli in ampi territori che arrivano fino alla fusion e alla batucada suonando wooden chimes, pandeiro, caixixi ed altra strumentazione etnica. (Rockit)

La cosa stupefacente è che questi sbalzi d'umore selvaggi mantengono comunque una propria progettualità di fondo. Non si tratta, quindi, di uno sfoggio tecnico fine a se stesso. Perché è vero, la carne al fuoco è tanta, ma è sempre cotta al punto giusto. Nessuno spazio a dilettanti allo sbaraglio, solo un collettivo che rifiuta con i fatti ogni rigida catalogazione in generi e definizioni. A differenza di molte altre band che arricciano il pelo e soffiano veleno quando qualcuno certifica la loro innegabile staticità artistica con il termine corrispondente. (Rockit)

Stavolta la band punta su un "concept" cinematografico, recuperando dialoghi, spezzoni, citazioni filmiche (vedi la magia di "Reversus" con la voce di Galadriel, oppure "A billion dollar crop", un viaggio nello spirito del proibizionismo), e inserendo il tutto in una miscela di matrice psichedelica, che pesca dal kraut rock alla new age, dal rock cosmico ai King Crimson. Come se fossero una sorta di Ashra rockeggianti e armati di Frippertronics, i Perizona partono con "A te" e lanciano le coordinate per una passeggiata negli spazi interiori, con il rock cinematico ed espressivo dell'ombrosa title-track, il kraut-sound di "Deep strings" e "Redentro", la stravagante "L'infingarda Pescara", l'eccezionale ritualità di "As long as you can". With Volume 1 , ZITA ENSEMBLE first manifested a peculiar and transitionary type of psychedelic rock, fragmented by free improvisations, experimental, contrasting shifts and, it seems, a brush-slip of heavy/metal too. 2007's Quintet Session sparked an even bigger interest, with a deeper crossover. While the range of effects flourishes apparently well enough for a split of electronica, soundscapes or even fusion, and the intricacy and spontaneity extends to the idea of something avant-gardistic (alas, mildly), the album is also appreciated for a serie of acoustic in nature leads, switching afterwards to space/electronic experimenting. Allegedly oriental-ish folk, jam-like groove and rhythmicity, recursive melody and a coloured and conceptual thematic are added to the main yet clearly detailed picture. (Progarchives)

The brief description of Gap Party in the CD press kits, running that their music is something average between the '70s' psychedelic Rock, Peter Hammill, and Radiohead, only partly corresponds to the actual state of affairs. All eight of the tracks are songs with English lyrics, and precisely half of them are musically quite different from the others. However, Gap Party's approach to the arrangement is a bit more straightforward and, indeed, is typical for Radiohead and the like performers of the so-called Alternative Progressive. Surprisingly, Afterwards , sub-titled as A Tribute to Van Der Graaf Generator , turned out to be more original then the following two songs: Today and All Age . The music on these is much in the same vein as Peter Hammill's "Fireships" or "X My Heart" both vocally and instrumentally. After the Meeting Call (7) is the most original composition on the album and is the absolute winner in general. The Hammond and violoncello are still at the helm, this time being joined by trombone, which resulted in a really efficient combination of Symphonic Art-Rock and Jazz-Fusion. (ProgressoR)

I was listening to Vedda Tribe's recording 'legacy' along with a few of
friends of mine, and of course, we shared our thoughts on each of the albums.
While hating most of the Neo, primarily for its highly derivative nature,
they, however, are very enthusiastic about most if not all of the followers
of King Crimson . Unanimously, they declared the band's latest effort a winner
and expressed their strong conviction that, unlike its predecessor,
it is 'doomed' to have a success and will be very well received by the
Prog audience. While it's clear to me that it would be wrong to disagree
with these remarks, Vedda Tribe's youthfully sincere debut is, nevertheless, a bit closer to the heart of such an adherent of originality as I. In any case,
both the albums are highly recommendable. There is so much to be discovered! (ProgressoR)

Ako Doma is definitely one of the strongest Slovak bands, though apart from Fermata, there are probably no other outfits in this country that would be on par with them. The album consists almost exclusively of masterpieces, while the first and the last compositions on it are among the biggest gems in the crown of contemporary East European Progressive. I found the whole album was filled with similar sounding tracks that were very relaxing
and mellow. They flow in a very stoned vibe and I found the CD was a surprise in places.
There are certain elements of different styles on this CD as the Sitar and Acoustic
Guitars have their moments to shine as well as the Strings and not forgetting the
spacey atmosphere conjured up by good Synth work. (Aural Innovations)

With repeated listens, the charm of Nema Niko's "Mio Scialbo" becomes more and more apparent, which is always a sign of unfeigned progressive music. This is a really admirable debut and would be an excellent introduction to the band, which explores uncommon Space Rock dimensions. Recommended in general and is a must for connoisseurs of the genre. Consists of five rather long compositions ranging from 7 to 10 minutes. Among those with a completely structured music this is definitely the most originally sounding album I've heard this year. The flight of the band's fantasy is so high that it takes my breath away. The moods that prevail here are neither dramatic nor romantic, nor joyful nor sad nor even neutral. (ProgressoR)

After a truly great concept album following the tale of A.G.
Pym entitled "Tekeli-li” by Edgar Allen Poe to the frozen
spheres of the northpole (or south, I don’t remember which one it was)
and then way beyond, Psi-Corps have taken their vision a little further
by devoting their newest album to the dark fantasy stories by Roger Zelazny.
Despite the fears and prejudices that this idea spawns instantly
(and despite the awful cover and the images that it spawns)
the album itself is an intense, psychedelic route through a dark underground,
filled with heavy guitars, synthesizers and space-rock. (monochrom)

PSI CORPS have crafted a truly masterful opening statement
with Tekeli-li, as both Alisa Coral and Michael Blackman prove once again
why they are at the forefront of the kraut/ prog/ space rock scene. This
album has taken their creative abilities to new levels. If you've read
Poe's story that's great, because here's an excuse to dust it off and
perhaps revisit it while you let Tekeli-li provide some aural background
accompaniment. If you haven't read it, that's no big deal, it's not like
it's a prerequisite or anything that might prevent you from getting the
maximum results out of the music. All you really need to do is kick back,
let your creative impulses flow and allow these two splendidly talented

Be forewarned because if truly fucked up avant-garde, instrumental
metal isn't up your alley then I can pretty much guarantee that you'll
find Oko to be a challenging listen at best. That being said, I have to
say that there's an almost cleansing feeling in their dense wall of sound
and uncompromising assault that ends up making quite an impression here.
Not to mention that if you're able to penetrate that wall of sound, you
may be surprised to discover that there are melodies to be found buried
just underneath all that pent up rage and aggression. In conclusion Oko
is definitely not going to hold much appeal for the casual listener, but
will yield rewards for the more adventurous. (seaoftranquility)

uSSSy is another great piece of noise rock with intentions to
fuck up all kinds of genres that come along with it. Their
first album has an hour of ranting, rocking, raving, exploding,
bass heavy, stupid noise rock on it. The last song is a long droning freak out,
which may tell you something about what these guys do and peruse when it is
time to chill, but other than that it is a hell of a ride. The first song on
here starts with guitar feedback and then a heavy drum hitting all beats of a
fast 4/4 as the tuned down guitar sets in. That should tell you all about

I AM ABOVE ON THE LEFT, a Moscow-based avant-rock band of a new
generation was established in autumn 2004 by Alexei Taroutz (guitar),
Artemiy Galkin (guitar), Pavel Eremeev (bass), and Sergei Ledovski (drums). The quartet performed loud, noisy, structured, complex, instrumental music,
blending influences of jazz-core, noise-rock, math-rock, and avant-prog.
Their efforts were devoted, as the participants said, to "rethinking
themselves at every single moment of time" and got vivid response from audience.
By the end of 2006, the band has released two albums, won critical acclaim
internationally, and decided to take a beak from joint activity.

SENDELICA’s third studio album was recorded in the USA by Pete Bingham (guitars, electronics)
and Glenda Pescado (bass) teaming up with the Boston area musicians, Geoff Chase from AXEMUNKEE
(drums) and Ed Guild (electronics). Additional recordings were made later in Wales and featured
Paul Fields (percussion), Lee Relfe (saxophone), Nemesis (vocal samples), R.A. Fish (rainstick,
percussion) and Brian Knoth (additional guitar). The trip starts with crushingly loud and fuzzy
riffs loosely based on heavy blues-rock. But the band is far from delivering one more canonical
stoner-rock goody. Instead, they suggest diving into a sonic wonderland where the music is
instrumental and psychedelic-tinged, the rock is classic, the disco is dark, the stylistic
frames are not so principal while some word- and note- combinations sound like decent Welsh
craftiness and humour. So, meet the Girl from the Future, named Sendelica, who certainly
lights up your Sky with Golden Worlds!
